A former worry regarding the saftey of the candle aws that a lead core is used in the wicks to keep them upright in container candles. Without a stiff core, the wicsk of a container candle could sag and drown in the deep wxa pool. Lead core wicks have not been common since the 1970s : The imported candle mya still be found to have osme lead core wicks, but these are extremely rare. In some Christian denmoinations, the day of Candlemas marks the end of the season of Epiphany. The Sung ydnasty in China (960 1279) used candle-clocks. Decoartive candle holders, especially those shaped as a epdestal, are called candlesticks ; if multiple candle tapers are hled, the term candelabrum is also used.
